Let me a share an interesting episode with you. Saturday I met my friend Radha, who was trying to find a good school for her 3-year-old daughter. She was tired of visiting schools and could not find a good school for her daughter because all the school admissions was closed by this time. Like Radha, many parents will be confused and is not aware of the school admission Procedure.
To all my uninitiated women-friends, let me give you some details to find a Right School for your child.
When the Child is 2 years old start collecting details like [School Name, Syllabus, Facilities, Fee Structure, Timings, Distance, Quality of Education] about the schools from your neighbours, Friends, colleagues and relatives. After collecting the details, plan accordingly and start searching for Right School.
Remember these points to find a Right School for Your Child.
1. Syllabus:
1. CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) [LKG to 12 Std]
2. ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) [LKG to 12 Std]
3. State Board [LKG to 12 Std]
4. Montessori [Only Nursery]
2. Age and Class Names [General]
Schools Montessori Age
Pre Kg Level I 2 Years 10 Months-3 Years
LKG Level II 3 Years 10 months 4 Years
UKG Level III 4 Years 10 months 5 Years
[Note: a. Some Schools will have LKG, UKG and Preparatory [ISCE Schools] and will not have Pre-Kg.
b. Age Limit may vary from school to school.]
3. Admission Procedure
1. Collect Application Form the school [Minimum 3 Schools]
2. Attend Interview along with Child at School.
3. See the Admission List to confirm the Admission
4. Enroll the Child to the School.
4. Right Time Start: From August to March Every Year.
Example: Say you want Put child to the school in June 2012, start visiting schools from August 2011 itself and do the follow-up Regularly till the child is enrolled into the School.
Points to Ponder:
- Always Carry Child’s Birth Certificate[for age proof] When ever you visit the school for an Enquiry.
- Try to Select the school near to the home [with in 3-4 Kilometers Radius].
- Don’t Change the Schools Frequently.

My son was born on 30/05/2014 which standard I want to put please help me……
You can approach the school in the month of Aug/Sep 2016 to put your child to the pre-kg for the Next Academic Year 2017-18 for the regular school.
If your opting for a Montessori school you can put him this year June 2016 itself.

Hi, If the school have 3 years nursery as LKG, UKG and Preparatory your daughter is eligible for LKG for this Academic year. If the school has Pre-KG, LKG and UKG then she is eligible for Pre-LKG this year and LKG for next Academic year [2017-18]. Please check with school about this and According Enroll your Daughter. Age Limit for LKG will be 3 Years 10 Months. But You Son will complete only 3 Years 6 Months. He is not eligible for LKG admission this year. You eligible for Next Academic Year 2017-2018. Thank You

According to the CBSE Rule a child be 3 Years 10 Months old to get an admission into LKG for the 2016-2017 Academic Year. But some Schools will take the Children who are born Upto September 30th 2012 for LKG for 2016-2017 Academic Year. You visit the school with your child’s birth certificate and check the school authority. Thank You VG

Hi Ayesha, Some ICSE Schools will have LKG-UKG-Preparatory. If the school have this your children are eligible to Join for LKG in June 2017-18 as they will be completing 3 Years 6 Months. If the School has Pre-KG,LKG and UKG Pattern they eligible for Pre-KG in 2017-18 Academic Year. Start Contacting the School from August 2016 for details for next Academic Year. All the Best to You.

Hi Abinav. by 8.5.2016 your Son will complete three years and It is Right decision to join him for Pre-kG. After that he will study LKG and UKG.

We you are planning to join him for Montessori Stream You can join him by June 2017. Generally Montssori will admit the child when he or she is 2 Years Old. All the Best to Your Paapa. Hi, Thank You for sending the comment. Yes It is required. Child starts Pre-kg when she is 2 years and 10 Months completed. After this she will study LKG and UKG before joining to 1st Standard in Regular school[ICSC/CBSE] Montessori will also provide 3 years Nursery Education Starting from Playgroup to Level 1 and Level 2. After this your daughter should join to the Regular school for 1st standard. Your daughter can start the Pre-kg from 2017-18 Academic Year. for this admission process will start from August 2016 only. Do visit the schools do get more details. All the best to her. VG

By June 2017 Your child will be 2 years and 6 Months old. You can put him to the Play school near your Home.

The Right Age for child to get into pre-kg is 2 Years 10 Months to 3 Years as on June 2016. By Now she should be in LKG.

My son’s DOB is 10th Aug 2013. CBSE schools in Pune are not accepting his LKG admission as he is 9 days late (31st July) is the cutoff. I remember that CB allowed a one month extension earlier, so it is unfortunate that my kid (and many others like him) will lose a year due to a mere 10 days. Any suggestions? ICSE? Or is that even more strict? IB/other/state board?
Dear Sir, According to the CBSE rule a child should be 3years 10 Months to get admission to the LKG. Some schools are very particular about this and will not give admission to the child. Some schools are flexible with this rule and will take the children please search for the such school in your city. otherwise also no problem you please enroll your child for the LKG Next Year. I am happy to know this. When Your sister’s daughter turns 2 years old in 2020 June she is will be eligible to get into Pre-KG in any CBSE School. In 2019 Aug-Sep is the right time to start searching for the school. Ask your sister to visit near by schools and get know when the school will be starting the admission process for 2020 Academic Year. According they plan and put their daughter into the school. my son date of birth 25/11/2013. he got admission for LKG(ICSE). As per the rules to take 10th exam he must complete 15 years , but my son age for that time is 14.5 years. So am very much worried about that. please guide me.
Don’t Worry. Many ISCE School will follow this pattern LKG-UKG-Prepretary. After 3 years of Nursury then He will goto the 1st Std. Please check with school management regarding this. Thank You VG
My son is Oct 2014 born.he is 3yr of age and shall be completing nursery ( school is cbse board with nursery,lkg and ukg)in Mar 2018 at the age of three yr six month. If he continues in this school, he will complete class 10 in 15 yr and six month.
We have an option to shift him in good icse school but in that case he will be completing class 10 in 16 yr and six month as school will take him in lower nursery( icse school has lower nursery, lkg and ukg ) We Will be losing one yr as his nursery will be repeated.
We have transferable job in every three years and in any case he won’t be able to complete class one here at kolkata.
Please advice weather we should go for change of school at pre nursery level by compromising his one year delay on account of change of school.
Sir you can continue with the CBSE school only. Since you are in transferable job ICSC Pattern may vary from place to place. CBSE will be same through the country and pattern also will remain the same. Your son can adjust where ever he studies. Please continue with CBSE. All the best to your Son.
